“No Black woman writer in this culture can write “too much”. Indeed, no woman writer can write “too much”…No woman has ever written enough.”
bell hooks
This year, my phrase of the year is “Amour de soi.”
I’m a vegan, but I’m not like a regular vegan…I’m a cool vegan (right, Regina?!). Rico Nasty is my anger translator and Tim Ross reminds me that since I love Jesus, I should always submit my emotions to God. I’m a 7 on the Enneagram and an INFJ-T, so I lean on my intuition and then even more towards introversion. Basically, I have mind control over you. When we first meet, I be quiet. But when you leave? I be talking again.
Notable Ways I’ve Spent My Time
I became a finalist in the 2021 Women Write Now Fellowship: A Comedic Screenwriting Fellowship for Black Women.
I graduated with my MFA in Writing + Producing for TV from Loyola Marymount University (May 2023)
I held two screenings for my short film, Blue Balls, which explored grief in a surreal world.
I was a showrunner’s assistant on SWAGGER (S2)
I was a producer’s assistant on GENIUS (S4)
Here’s what’s up in 2023:
Doing
Helping to create an inclusive networking space for Black women in film and tv with my friends
Writing a feature in a LA writer’s residency with some of the best people in the biz. More on that later.
Organizing and attending book club events with my book club, Baddies + Books
*Periodically* recording a screenwriting podcast that exclusively chronicles the journeys of Black women screenwriters
Writing (And Let’s Be Honest…REWRITING)
City of Refuge | fantasy-adventure drama | one-hour pilot featuring a Black woman warrior, a clairvoyant gem, and an eye gouge that will make you squirm
Blue Balls | comedy | a short film featuring an alternate world where everyone is forced to carry their grief, a positively toxic grief…guide?, and a short ode to Telfar
Jesus Freaks | comedy | a half-hour featuring a possible cult, three ex-best friends, and light time travel
Compound | drama | a one-hour pilot featuring a Black wanna-be survivalist compound (they’re probably going to die), eccentric celebrities, and cringe-worthy “Olympic” games
Test Flavor 404 | dramedy | a short film featuring a secret snack flavor, a to-do list, and a frenemy
Spit Out The Bones | comedy | a short film featuring a pan of too-tough chicken, a broken heart, and a May-September situationship
To My Moon And Stars | drama feature | a film featuring a cross-cultural romance, gourmet chocolate, and a fight scene that will make you re-evaluate the word “family”
The Noise Above Our Heads | dramedy feature | a film featuring a runaway mother, a road trip, and a Postmates order gone bad
You can ask me if these scripts are finished here.
Current Beliefs
Here is holy.
It is possible to “slip into an intimacy from which you will never recover.”
1 Corinthians 6:12 (my favorite verse)
Romans 8:38-39
Proverbs 29:25
Don’t be afraid to be seen trying.
Being [dead] wrong is apart of the human experience. Taking accountability matters. -Myleik Teele
“The [girl] and her heart had become friends and neither was capable now of betraying the other.”
When you want something, all the universe conspires in your favor.
He who does not know can know from learning.
To love yourself long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the person you used to be.
Current Question
Does what I’m building have:
divine motivation?
divine attribution?
divine anointing?
